What I Want to Hear in 2018 I want to hear in 2018 that more Baha'i Houses of Worship are either under construction or that their designs are being unveiled. In January of 2017, construction of the House of Worship in Norte del Cauca, Colombia, began.1 in June on Tanna, an island in Vanuatu, the design of the local House of Worship was unveiled.2 I want to hear in 2018 that the rest of the Yaran, who were imprisoned in Iran because Baha'i Institutions were declared illegal in 1980, have been released. Three of the Yaran--Mahvash Sabet3, Fariba Kamalabadi4, and Behrooz Tavakkoli5--were released in 2017, but there are still four in prison. I want to hear in 2018 that there have been more medical breakthroughs concerning Alzheimer's disease, cancer, and other medical issues. In 2017, it was discovered that "Diabetes Drug ‘Significantly Reverses Memory Loss’ in Mice With Alzheimer’s"6. I would prefer to see these types of stories on the front page of newspapers or in the headlines of news websites. I would, also, like to hear about other scientific discoveries rather than the bad news stories most news organizations focused on. In 2017, Footnotes |
