Empty Nesting
Empty Nesting
By Edwina Carol

I feel it now what they call the empty nest
It is a feeling that I’ve had before, and it’s not my best
It took a while they have been gone for at least ten years
Yet only now do I feel the disconnect, the detach, the tears

I feel it now, someone stole what I thought was mine
But now I know it comes and goes with the times
The growing up and growing wise it’s time to change
The focus of my own life away from them is my range

I feel it now a rough patch cause I miss them so
But if I need to comfort them I don’t have far to go
They’re now living their own lives it great to see
I must admit I have to say Hurray! Hurray! For me

For now I’m Free, I said I’m free to live my life
To live it independently away from mother’s strife
A life of all that I can do to be myself and sail away
And do the things that I most like to enjoy each and every day

Thank you children Thank you child for all that you have done
To make me proud of who you are and who you have become
I bid you many blessings as you march towards the sun
I pray for you much laughter and opportunities for fun

I give God praise for keeping you safe and in your right mind
And now I pray for my own sake to fill this space and time
I said all I have to say to wish you well; But there is one last thing that I must tell
I love you
