Poem about death of a spouse.
[w.c. 89]
She stood sentinel
A huddled mass of arms wrapped tight
Before the flowery sentiment.
The wind has a chilling bite
Reaching a soul turned concrete
No love or laughter can be found
To soften her life or belief
Or the pity embraced by this town.
Icicles form upon her face
Ragged tracks they do make
A heart bereft now waits
For death to correct this life’s mistake
The rhythm of the town awaken
She must now go to face the day
Alone and forsaken
And a heart in disarray.
