Thursday Reflections on Sandcastles and Life Lessons
Thursday, June 15, 2017
Goodbye thee
contraction of
God be with you.
The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for Day 1189
"Only later did I realize that what I had thought were hours spent merely learning to build sandcastles were actually hours spent learning to build the foundation of a good life. A life of integrity and fairness, generosity and principles. A life of love." What are your reflections on this?
Sandcastles and Life Lessons
I never built sandcastles as a child
because there were no sandy beaches
close to where I live.
Sometimes Grandpa
would take us to Lake Carl Blackwell
or the Salt Plains,
but we never build sandcastles there.
At these places,
we swam,
barbecued,
and got sunburned
because no one thought
of putting sunscreen on us.
My life lessons
were learned
from being in the sun too long
and vinegar
put on my sunburned
body parts.
Even today,
the scent of vinegar
brings back fond
and painful memories
of my childhood.
