![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Written for International Poetry Day 2017! ![]() Home in Kentucky By Lisa Noe ![]() In a cool Kentucky field the corn blew in the breeze The old dog set and howled and bayed at the moon Grandpa and grandma were laid to rest on the hill Mama and papa took off across the country to seize What the nation held in beauty from land to sea ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There I was, just sitting there on my own On the front porch of my old Kentucky home I looked up to the skies it was mirrored in my eyes Those majestic hills of old where opossums And raccoons roamed . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the land of my fathers and my mothers yes in deed This is where I lay may head it is where I want to be I want to lay on the ground at night capture a lighting bug in flight Stand on Black Mountain and touch the sky A place where I can see a black bear, a wild cat with a menacing stare ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There I was, just sitting there on my own On the front porch of my old Kentucky home Yes I look up to those skies and they’re mirrored in my eyes Its those majestic hills of old where the opossums And the raccoons roamed . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I’ll say to you one more time, these are the hills of ancient times A special place to call home where man and beast can coexist Where hoot owls lull you at night and the rooster crows at dawns first light These are the hills of Kentucky, where those who live there say they’re lucky I love the mountains of old God kissed them and placed them in his fold. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The hills of Kentucky they’re gold.
