Andy~hating university February 2017, Guest Assistant Lesson 2.#3: "Invalid Post" {post:3069082} NOTE: The Pre Tag has some known issues with smaller screen sizes; specifically Apple! The post above runs off the page as the text wrapping doesn't work with the Pre tag. So if you're doing a forum or contest using a tablet or phone, just use caution ~Whata Feb 15, 2017 at 1:02pm #3069082 ยท 37 views 1 Liked February Lesson 3 - keeping space formatting by Andy~GoT on the horizon (895) This is the third of four lessons this month. I'm posting it a little early, so that I don't end up posting the last lesson only a day or two before the end of the month. Eagle Eye CanImagine the Wordy Jay A.M.Bradley SoldierBoy Talking Dragon RosieAda Seeing Shamrocks -Back in July This is actually a change to my planned lesson, because I only discovered this awesome ML myself yesterday! I've been here over two years and never knew this ML existed. I'm going to introduce to the {pre} ML. As you may have noticed by now, WDC has a habit of removing extra spaces and returns, but this ML will keep any spacing, including carriage or hard returns, however you set it out on the page - so that literally what you see is what you get. All you need to do is put a {pre} at the start of the text you want to keep space formatted and a {/pre} at the end of the text, and voila. WDC does what you want it to do and not what it thinks you want it to do. To help it all stand out a little, I'll colour the text without using the {pre} ML in red, and the text with using it in green; I'll also show you where the {pre} and {/pre} ML need to go. Without the {pre} {/pre} tags: This line actually has lots of spaces With the {pre} {/pre} tags:
It's also useful for formatting text when you want to leave more than one line of space between things: Without the {pre} {/pre} tags: There are actually three carriage returns in between this line and this line, and two more down to this line With the {pre} {/pre} tags:
I want you to write a short joke or poem where there are lots of spaces between each word, just like my first example. Then I want you do the same again, but put a different number of return spaces between each line, like in my second example. All members who complete this lesson will receive 1000 GPs.
