PROMPT: Creation Saturday... The song "Sign O' The Times" was released by Prince on this day in 1987. And in 1992, Vince Neil quit as lead singer of Motley Crue. After 11 years with the group, he says he wants to spend more time on his career as a race car driver. Using "Sign O' The Times", Prince, Motley Crue, and race car write a poem or short story on this beautiful creative Saturday. Whoa, 80's flashbacks... Ah, I sorta remember 1987. I was more than preoccupied, okay frazzled actually, with three children seven years of age and younger at that time. As I recall, the new wonder drug Prozak ventured onto the market then, not that I ever resorted to its use. Television ads were trumped by this campaign: "This is your brain on drugs." Kids asked for Koosh balls, Jenga, and Pictionary. Who hasn't heard this movie line? "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Michael Jackson released "Bad." "Walk Like An Egyptian" was catchy. And, oh yes, I recall Motley Crue, and Prince. It must have been a great time to be a hair stylist/artiste. Anyway, I digress, or stall long enough... Here then are a few lines from that Prince classic "Sign O' The Times": Hurrican Annie ripped the ceiling of a church And killed everyone inside You turn on the telly and every other story Is tellin' you somebody died Sister killed her baby cuz she couldn't afford to feed And we're sending people to the moon In September my cousin tried reefer for the very first time Now he's doing horse, it's June. Times, times It's silly, no? When a rocket ship explodes And everybody still wants to fly Some say a man ain't happy Unless a man truly dies Oh why... Er...um... I attempted to re-write these lyrics within the parameters of today's prompt... Emphasis on attempted 'cause I aint no Prince, or Motley Crue... Motley Crue and Prince electrified the stage Sparking cheering from their fans. Screaming guitars and pounding drums ignite a fierce spark. Worship for the raucous bands. It's "Wild Side" "Smokin' In The Boys' Room" with "Dr. Feel Good". Hear when "Dove's Cry" in "The Purple Rain." Flames flash, strobes slash, rockers writhe and strut in black leather and heels. Unleashed energy's insane. When an Indy car crashes Rock stars still love the rush. Speed and race cars collide. Bass, metal, boom in the crush. I shall not take a curtain call, or an encore. No really, it's not necessary, or earned, or warranted, or at all feasible. Motley Crue and Prince I salute you... |
