February 6: An Awkward Silence

This prompt took me back a few years. It's been a while since I experienced an awkward silence. I find some of those memories amusing because in a couple of cases I don't think I should have been the one who was nervous since I wasn't the one who caused the awkward silence. I guess I should thank the people who caused them because without those moments I wouldn't have had a poem.

An Awkward Silence

Nervous smile,
quick glance at the ceiling tiles,
hot flush:
Did I blush?


Nervous laughter
looking for a quick escape,
unspoken annoyance
at the distant door,
I sigh
relieved
when the conversation continues.
