The 50/50 30DBC prompt for February 2, 2017 is "Tell us a little bit about your WDC handle/username. Is there a story behind it? Are you personally named after someone, family or otherwise?"

My handle of course is Chris Breva. It's derived from the name Jamison Christian Breva. I had a friend who's surname was Breva. I was just basically getting started in my writing career and needed to establish a pseudonym. To do so I started a checking account with a major bank and listed my name as Marvin D. Schrebe (my given name) and added AKA Jamison Christian Breva. Thus a federal government institution recognized my alias and it became a legally established alias.

I have spent most of my adult life on disability and thus I have to have reviews to determine my eligibility. One of the reviews I completed determined that I was ineligible to continue my disability but I felt I was. So I hired an attorney who appealed the decision for me. It went to federal court. The judge also inquired if I had the alias of Jamison Christian Breva. I told him that I did and that it had been established at a bank. He ruled that in that case the alias would be listed on my social security and tax information, thus giving me two legal names. So Chris Breva isn't just my handle. It's actually one of my names. The funny thing is that for purposes of the US Internal Revenue Service I also have a "DBA" or Doing Business As" name due to the fact that i briefly published my own magazine. So the US Government knows me as Marvin D. Schrebe AKA Jamison Christian Breva DBA Mid-Ohio Valley Poetry. Quite a mouthful isn't it?
