"Hello, Susan." "Ah! Who are you?" "Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you - well, yeah I did mean to. It's funny." "Again, who are you?" "Oh I'm Tanya." "Well, Tanya where the heck did you come from? I didn't see you around." "I live here." "In the park?" "Yes." "Girl it's not safe to stay here by yourself, especially at night." "That's when it's most exciting." "You're weird and I didn't invite you to share this bench with me. I'd like to be by myself. So move on Tanya." "I used to feel that way, too. But now I'm always by myself. If I sit on the ground in front of you will you hang out and talk with me for a while?" "Uh...Oh alright. So what do you do around here all day? " "Mostly sit and scare people. Oh the little kids are the most fun to scare. Ha!" "That's pretty mean. Don't you have anything better to do?" "No, not really. This is it. I'm just waiting." "Waiting for what?" "For someone to come get me." "Do you want me to call someone for you?" "I'd love for you to call my mom." "Did you run away from home?" "Yes. I took my mother's car without permission. I just wanted to come here for some peace and quiet." "Well if you have your mom's car why don't you drive it back home? I'm sure your mom would be happy to see you." "Yeah she probably would. But I can't. I've tried." "I can take you if you want." "No thanks. I can't go outside of the park. It hurts." "What do you mean it hurts." "Well see that lake right there?" "Yes." "That's where the car went in. So I can't go outside of the park." "I'm confused. Did you say the car's in the lake?" "Not anymore. The tow truck got it out." "Well thank goodness you're okay." "Um, I'm not actually." "You're not? Why? What's wrong? You look fine." "Well, I'm dead." "What do you mean dead?" "I was asleep in the car when it rolled into the lake and I drowned. My mom was so sad. I watched while the EMT's tried to resuscitate me. But no one's come to get me yet. So I'm waiting." "I think I need to go now." "Will you come back and visit me?" "I don't know. We'll have to see." "Okay. Bye." |
