August Backpacking Europe: Day 6
Saturday, August 6, 2016

I love the idea of sound-proof, air-conditioned rooms. I wish my apartment in Las Vegas was sound-proof then I wouldn't have to put up with some of the weird music some of the neighbors tend to play when they're high on something. Not that my neighbors get high all the time, but some weekends are worse then others. The elderly couple in the studio directly next door are quiet and don't get high on anything. However, the young man in the two bedroom behind my apartment does smoke weed. I know because De and I can smell it through the bedroom windows. When he gets high he plays his music loud enough to disturb us, if not to wake the dead. His mother tries to hold him in check, but when she works at night there is little she can do.

A succulent aroma
wafts across my palette
reminding me of the taste of spring.

I tagged along on the half-day wine tour to the Châteaux of Montpellier. I love the looks of the châteaux and the vineyards were beautiful. I didn't sample the winds, but their aroma reminded me of flowers in bloom. I can't say specifically which flowers because I, while I can detect the scent of flowers, I can't identify the different flowers by scent alone. I think when I return home, I'm going to purchase a bunch of grapes so that I can have grapes with my cheese and cracker snacks. I love cheese and crackers on a warm Las Vegas afternoon. Adding grapes to the menu balances the salty taste with something sweet.

The Empanadas Club

I liked the empanadas! I think this was the first time I tried them, I knew I would like them before I tasted this delicious dish. Of course, I usually presume I'm going to like a new food before I try it. Normally, I don't even ask what it's composed of because I like any type of food. On those rare occasions when I don't like the new dish, I presume it's an acquired taste and attempt to acquire a taste for it. I think that may be what pissed one of my siblings off when we were growing up. He had to know what was in the recipe before tasting and it didn't matter to me. The only time I ask for the recipe was after I tasted the food and needed to know how to make it.
Games Taverne

I didn't go to the game taverne because I'm not a game taverne girl. I went back to my sound-proof, air-conditioned room and sacked out. The truth is that I enjoyed sleeping in a bed that didn't do a number on my back. It's been so long since I could sleep in a real bed that I enjoyed the experience. I wish I could find a bed that comfortable in Las Vegas, but then if I could it would be too expensive for me to afford.
