Parents and their young child - the sky is bleak, the food is scarce, their home taken away – 552 words The Lord provides By Lisa Noe The sky opened up and gray clouds loomed as the young parents of three hungry children huddled for warmth under the bridge. The father started a fire to keep the family from freezing. The young children trembled from cold. The mother fed her children bread for their supper. “I will go out and look for work in the morning,” said the father. “If I can find some odd jobs I’ll buy some cheese to feed the young ones.” The mother touched his hand as to show him confidence that something good must surely happen for them. Henry Baker lost his job at the paper mill nearly eight months ago and had been doing odd jobs to get the family by. June, huddled with her children as the rains were torrential. The family had lost their home due to medical bills after Henry had a heart attack. “Let us pray that our luck will change and we can find steady work, I pray that the Lord will provide for us, He has kept us together thus far,” said June. “He will provide, surely tomorrow I will find work and we can find a place to lay our heads.” The parents and their three young children slept through the night under the bridge. Early in the morning Henry left his wife to watch the children while he went out seeking work. He went to the gas station on the corner and begged for a job. The manager at the station wanted to know where he lived, he needed an address. “I must confide in you that I and my family have fallen on hard times and we currently have no home, but if you give me a job I will work hard and I will prove myself to be a valuable employee. I just need a chance.” The manager was a good Christian man and wanted to help Henry, so he told him he could start that day. And that he and his family could stay in the tool shed in back until they could afford to get an apartment. Henry worked diligently for the manager and at the end of the day the manager paid him a cash salary for the day. He went to the bridge where his family waited for him and with joyous announcement that he was now employed. He took his wife and their children and they bought beans and bread and cheese to eat for a dinner they hadn’t had in a while. They were in the tool shed and there was a pot belly stove to warm the shed. So they stayed nice and warm and got their bellies full of food. “I told you if we prayed that the Lord would provide for us.” Said June. The oldest child was in third grade ,and the middle child in first ,the third child was two. “You take the kids to school in the morning and get them signed up. We now have an address and I have gainful employment therefore no one will come to break our family apart,” said Henry. The Lord surely provided by putting a Christian man in their life. |
