My Sister
By Lisa Noe
I recall in earlier years us
Climbing on the old oak tree
We tied a yellow ribbon there
For the Vietnam Veterans
Still over there.
I remember our little pups
Of which we rescued
We placed them in a box
We loved each one of them
Until the runt died.
We used to ride our bicycles
Until the evening hour
We played in cardboard boxes
Creating playhouses and rolling
Across the yard.
You were my older sister
I had such pride in you.
I wanted to be like you
In all of your ways
I thought that you were great.
We fussed and fought
But we had such love too
We played “Mean Melissa”
And “Carla Caloosa” too
These were our own games
For which we created.
I love you my older sister
You mean the world to me
You’ve grown in to a fine woman
So beautiful and strong.
You have a lovely family
Of which I do adore.
My sister you are my best friend
I share my dreams with you
I tell you of my heart aches
My losses and my victories
I share everything with you.
My sis you are in my heart forever.
