It has been well said that mythology is the penultimate truth--penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words. It is beyond words. Beyond images, beyond that bounding rim of the Buddhist Wheel of Becoming. In Eastern cultures dragons are portrayed as good, but in Western cultures they are evil. When we use dragons in our stories, we have to decide whether the dragon will be the hero or villain, the protagonist or the antagonist. We do not have to have dragons that are completely good or evil, sometimes they can be like humans with both good and bad attributes.] Ten Popular Mythical Creatures The Phoenix The centaur Mermaids The Leviathan Dragons Pegasus Hydra Sphinx Unicorns April is notional poetry month.
