One Harley, six dogs. Life with our crazy canines. |
Cast of Canine Characters Nibbler, 8 year old Mini Australian Shepard Tamale Schnitzel, 5 year old Chihuahua/Min Pin Mix Caramel, 3 year old Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix Basil, 3 year old Chihuahua/Min Pin Mix Cheddar, 1 year old Pomeranian/Chihuahua Mix Here I am, sitting in my recliner with Cheddar and Basil and my lap top. Cheddar is our new dog who broke his leg last weekend. I'm ordering a new soft sided crate for Cheddar, and getting frustrated about trying to pick the right size in a range of XS to XL. With no number to back those letters up, how do I know which one to pick? My husband is leaving for work (he goes in earlier than I do) so I ask him if he could put our biggest dog, Nibbler, out in the fenced back yard. Nibbler loves to do a big send off when we drive off, barking and running the fence line. For some reason, that cued Caramel to start a fight with little Basil. Although Basil is half Caramel's size, she usually holds her own until we split them up. Today, however, Caramel managed to draw blood right by Basil's eye. I admit I panicked a little. We just had Cheddar at the vet for a traumatic injury. We are good dog parents, and take excellent care of our dogs. Why does this stuff keep happening? I'm usually the one that calmly deals with dog injuries and illness, but this time my husband stepped up the plate. He assessed the injury, and determined there was a bleeding cut in the skin near her eye. I'm so relieved her eye is fine, and a little embarrassed that I couldn't handle a tiny cut on my baby's face. The bleeding stopped, and Basil seems fine. I'm fine, too, thanks for asking. |
