Nothing So Prone Or Sacred
12-5-07
It is correct
that no one travels
until I set foot on the sidewalk.
Doubly so,
does my phone ring
only once I've hit the bathroom
and forgotten to bring it along.
It doesn't matter;
I've bought like 50 ringtones for it
but it's usually on "silent",
especially at critical times.
Trains only pass thru
when I'm rounding
the corner by the tracks,
forcing me to wait
in substandard cold and snow
before I can walk home
just to drink alone.
At least my hands aren't shaking;
mine's,
or anyone's.
It's what liquor does and doesn't.
I still sweat,
so I must be alive.
I'm ready for the taking, either way.
When a champion of failure dies,
what's there left to live for
or aspire to
anyway?
