So lost in translation with Nico & Vinz

Song: "When The Day Comes"
Artist: Nico & Vinz
Album: Black Star Elephant

While were on the topic of unique sounds, you can't get more unique than a pop/reggae/soul sound coming from a Norwegian-born duo of Ivorian and Ghanaian descent. Most Americans are probably familiar with this duo's more popular breakout hit "Am I Wrong"  Open in new Window. or their follow-up single "In Your Arms"  Open in new Window. which charted in Europe, but I really like this song from the same album, which is a great blend of all the different elements of their sound.

When the duo originally formed they were known by the name Envy, but changed it to Nico & Vinz for their American debut in January 2014 to avoid confusion with an existing American artist. They've been popular in Europe for some time (and have even performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert), but have yet to gain much traction in the U.S. other than that first big hit.

Over the past several months, I've found myself drawn more and more toward artists that are doing something different. Don't get m wrong, I still love a good pop/rock tune and you'll find plenty of those on my Soundtrackers playlist this year, but I'm also trying to broaden the scope of my listening and find new artists with sounds that I haven't heard before. These guys definitely have a sound that's all their own, and I hope they catch on even more in the U.S. so they keep making music.
