We seem to live in a world where people demand signs telling us every simple thing.



Oh really? You can use firewood in fires? In open fireplaces. Why didn't anyone tell me this? Why was it a sign on a pallet of stock in Bunnings where I saw this flame of enlightenment? (or at least the fuel to spark the kindling).

Where have brains disappeared, and the exercising of them? Who stole the assumption from writers, and local council rule makers, manufacturers, lawyers and judges - who took away the understanding that should be a given; that people are generally intelligent, especially if treated that way, and given half a chance.

One place I worked, and this is true, a guy said to me one day not to think, or show any initiative. "You won't be thanked or paid any more. In this place, you leave your brain at the security gate". He was right. And I would have done what he advised, if I'd had the brains.

Reminds me of a job interview I heard of once a few, quite a few years ago, where a guy walks into a room, sees the interview panel consisting of 3 stern looking, stiff and starchy fellows, and the job seeker promptly halted, looked upwards at the ceiling and said, "Beam me up Scotty! There's no intelligent life down here!". He got the job.

They'll probably leave again after a short time when they observe all the signs telling us how to do everything. You can almost hear their radio chatter now.

Perhaps there are a lot of people who don't think for themselves. Maybe a lot of us (them) are dumb rednecks and bogans.

But there's no need to write down to people. At least lets do it through our characters eh? Or hide it in a condescending blog entry. Not that I ever write any of those...(cough! it wasn't me cough!)
