The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved...Who Was He?
The "disciple whom Jesus loved," as mentioned 5 times in the Gospel of John. If you notice in the Gospels, whenever Jesus wasn't gathered with all of his 12 disciples, it was almost always Peter, James, and John (sons of Zebedee) who got to go with Him. So it wasn't Peter, since John13:23,24 and John 21:7 both refer to Peter addressing this disciple.  And although James and John were usually mentioned together in the Gospels, I tend to believe it was John though.  Not only does he practically reveal himself at the end of John 21, but also according to the KJV Strong's Concordance, the word "love" alone is mentioned 33 times, all of which are derived from the Greek word "agape" or some variant of the word.  No other book of the New Testament has that many references to agape love.  I believe John was the one who put his head on Jesus' bosom during the Last Supper, and was right there at least at the waning moments of the Crucifixion when Jesus presented him to Mary his mother. He also outran Peter to Jesus' tomb and was the first to recognize Jesus from the boat when the disciples were fishing after His resurrection. Such examples illustrate to me just how much love he had for Jesus, so how could Jesus not love him the way He did?
