*Written as part of the "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" Day 4 Prompt: How was the universe created? Write your OWN creation myth. As I thought about what I wanted to write for today's prompt, I came up with the idea for an opening line that reads, "In the beginning, there was Doug." And I had this whole idea about the universe being created by a technician of some kind because I thought it would be fun and interesting and unique. But for some reason, that opening line sounded really familiar and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Until I searched through my port and realized that I actually already wrote the version of the creation myth I was planning on writing here. It was one of the first things I posted in my portfolio, almost exactly six years ago:
Granted, the item was about creating the Earth and not necessarily the entire universe, but I had to laugh at myself for coming up with basically the same take on a prompt that I came up with years ago. I think I'm attracted to this idea as a humorous take on the creation myth because it totally fits with our modern concept of convenience, i.e., that we should be able to customize everything to our exact tastes and preferences. As far as "Doug" goes, I guess it just sounds like a total tech-support kind of name. If you want to read the item, it's short (less than 600 words) and a pretty quick read. Hope you enjoy! |
