What writing work of yours are you most proud of?

Pride is a poet's downfall
because it leads
to the egomaniac belief
that perfection is achieved.

Perfection
is always just below
the poet's horizon,
beyond the next mountain of stanzas
on the other side
the metaphoric line
or the high way of similes.

What writing work am I most proud of? My poetry, but I have to be careful that pride does not lead to the belief that one perfect poem is the ultimate goal. Writing poetry is sleepless nights fighting with the depression of writer's block. Once the perfect poem is written (if that is possible) then I have to move on to the next poem and hope I can achieve an adequate verse even if perfection eludes for the moment.

Pride the destroyer
is eventually over come
by death
leaving behind
a decomposing body.

A poet must strive for perfection
without becoming
proud of it.
