Originally trading This for That was how things were spread around communities- a finished bronze ax to split wood for some clay pots to store grain in, for instance. Eventually, coins, and money, were used to get items, and many had to work to get money. Some wonder if young people today could be responsible with money. I think that depends on where and how the person was raised. If a person was spoiled all their life, such as coming from a wealthy family, or having siblings that are 15+ years older than they are giving them gifts, such as a $20K truck to an 18 year old from their 30 year old brother- true story- they may not understand the concept of money. If they were raised in a place where money had to be stretched to last from a $300 paycheck to $300 paycheck every week, they might learn the meaning of a dollar, and it's not always a candy bar, but actually $3 for a bag of cheap cereal that lasts you the week- hopefully.
