That Special Movie

For me that's Don Bluth's Rock-a-Doodle. It's about a rooster named Chanticleer whose job is to crow and wake up the sun. Well, some owls don't like him crowing, namely the Grand Duke of Owls. He sends another rooster to pick a fight with Chanty- Chanty wins the fight, but forgets to crow and the sun rises without him. The others believe Chanty to be a fraud, and he leaves in sadness. After that, it begins to rain, heavily, and the problems with the Duke begin.

Meanwhile, Edmond, a boy in the "real world" is being read the story- turns out his family is having trouble with the rain. When the rest go out to save the animals from the flood, he gets the idea to call for Chanticleer- Great idea but the wrong person hears. The Grande Duke shows up and turns Edmond into a kitten, so that he can eat him more easily, for calling out to the rooster. Thankfully, Patou, a basset hound, shows up to rescue Edmond, and Edmond turns on a flashlight to scare off the owl. After this, Edmond meets up with the other animals, who are all looking for Chanticleer so that he can raise the sun. He and a few others, Patou, Snipes the magpie, and Peepers the mouse, go off to find Chanticleer while the others stay in the house, with Stuey the pig manning the lights to keep the owls at bay.

The Grand Duke then sends his nephew Hunch to stop Edmond from getting the rooster.

Meanwhile, Chanty has a job as an Elvis Impersonator- and is making Pinky the fox a good deal of money. However, Goldie the pheasant is jealous of Chanty, who is now known as the King, and wants out of the chorus. Pinky, who is secretly working for the Grand Duke, receives a call, warning him of Edmond and his friends. Thus, he gives Goldie the job of keeping the King distracted. Edmond however, manages to talk to Goldie, and she tells Chanty what was going on. Pinky finds out and takes Edmond and the others captive. Edmond and the others, as well as Chanty and Goldie, manage to escape, stealing Pinky's helicopter.

Meanwhile, the batteries in the flashlight run out and the owls snatch up the animals, intending to eat them. Thankfully, Edmond and the rest show up with the helicopter and use its lights to save the others. However, Hunch (after several failed attempts) shows up and causes the helicopter to crash. After getting to dry land, Edmond tries to get Chanty to crow, but he's out of practice. The Grand Duke shows up and traps Chanty. Edmond tries to encourage Chanty, and get the others to as well. The Duke then uses his magic to strangle Edmond. Patou checks on the kitten, and finds him still breathing, but not responsive. Fighting his tears, he begins chanting Chanticleer's name, along with the others. The Duke uses his power to increase in size, and turns himself into a tornado, trying to drown Chanty. Chanty however, manages to regain his crowing prowess, and crows with all his might. The sun manages to hear, and sends a ray of light to hit the Duke. The Duke screams in pain, as he shrinks to half the size of a mouse. Hunch, who is a pygmy, and has been abused by his uncle, sees him and takes his revenge. The sun then fully rises, and the rain clears up.

The animals however, don't about Edmond, who turns into his real form. Thankfully, Edmond hears his mother's voice, and wakes up in the "real world", where it is now morning, and the sun has risen, and the rain has stopped. He then opens the book to thank Chanticleer, and Chanticleer thanks him back.

Glen Campbell- Chanticleer (Better known for his role as LaBeuf in True Grit- co-staring with John Wayne, and for his country/gospel-style of singing)

Toby Scott Ganger as Edmond (Can't find much on him)

Phil Harris as Patou- better known as O'Malley on AristoCats, Balloo the Bear in Jungle Book, and Little John in Robin Hood (all Disney movies)

Eddie Deezen as Snipes- Know for portraying geek-type characters, such as Know-it-All from Polar Express and Mandark from Dexter's Laboratory

Sandy Duncan as Peepers- Broadway performer and part of the Hogan Family sitcom

Christopher Plummer as the Grand Duke of Owls- Charles Muntz of Up, The Phantom in Return of the Pink Panther

Sorrell Booke as Pinky- Better known for his role as Boss Jefferson Davis Hogg of the Dukes of Hazzard

Ellen Greene as Goldie

Will Ryan as Stuey

How I found it- I was being babysitted when I was 7 years old. The Sitter had it, and popped it into the VCR. Afterwards, I made a picture story based off of it. I've been writing ever sense. It took me fifteen years, but I finally found it again.

Mother's Day Gift
Two cards- one saying "Got you something to wear that shows you're a mother"- has a button pin that says "Put me in Time Out" and the bottom of the card says, ("Actually, this is good good any day.)" Second card says, "For being there for all the good and bad times." Plays a clip of Martina McBride's "Blessed" when opened. I also got her a matching sapphire necklace, ring and earrings set. I think it was worth it.
