chapter one
King Thomas

William was Queen Anne's army general. He was one of the most honored but brutal men alive. He brought many enemies to their knees. Queen Anne was secretly in love with William, but this could not come out. Royalty could not mix with the comma folk. She had been saved many times by this vigilant man, and wanted so badly to be his wife.

She and William had grown up together. His dad was her father's General John. John too was one of the most noble of men. He gave his life for King Thomas, and she knew that William would for her. The only thing she did not know is if it would be from duty or from love. This is something that the queen may never know.

The queen spent a lot of her day playing with the children of the village, and this bored William when he had to guide the reckless queen. He was not terribly fond of children. He found them annoying and troublesome. He found no use for children but to always be in the way of more important things. He could not understand his queens love for them.

William left the castle to get some time away from the queen and her obsessions. She was always finding good works to get her into trouble, and sometimes he just needed to take a break. He left his captain of guard in charge of guarding the queen. Then decided to go to the village to visit the tavern. He so needed a drink of spirits to calm his.

As soon as he crossed the mote on the out side of the castle. He was shocked and partially blinded by a strong light. William could not believe what he had seen. The light spooked his horse away with all his weapons of war.. He was left in the brightest light that he had ever seen. Then he began to float up to it. Now he is in a dark room, strapped to a table, and sounds of chatter accompanied by the humming of motors.

William could not understand what the voices were saying. They seemed to want to know something. What did he know that they would want? Electric had not been invented yet, and these people (if they were people) had a light brighter than the sun.

Dimming lights begin to show shadowed creatures. They moved slow on three legs. One of them came and chattered with its (finger, I think) in William's face. It was determined to get what it wanted, but what was it that it wanted?

Finally, one of the aliens brought something into the room. It was a human child.  The child looked to be about 5 years old. He is bald with large  blue eyes. His skin was so pale that it almost appeared colorless. His eyes seemed to glow with the brightest sky color. His  face was expressionless. There was no look of fear, joy, or love. There was nothing,

The figures lead the child gently to William. William doesn't know what to think about this. He takes the child by the hand. The leader or captain pushes a section of his uniform. This changed his language into English.

“This child is the future of your planet. He is a hybrid of our genetics, both human and stark. Your world is going to be destroyed by the sun. This child can with stand heat, cold, radiation and water. It can reproduce by its self. He is the survival of your world.”

William wakes by the outside gates of the castle. He was thinking that he had had too much to drink the night before. Then he sees the sleeping child. He knows that he has to raise the future of the world.

William was in shock. How could he raise a child when he hated the sound of the word child? He looks over to the child, and decides to wake him. "I don't know what to do with you, or even if you are really from some dream. I can not leave you out here unprotected out side of the castle's gates." he said not believing his own words as they came out of his mouth.

The child doesn't say a word. He gazed with a empty look in his eyes and reaches out his hand. William whistles for his stead, and puts the child up on its back. He jumps on too.

"I guess the first place that I should take you is to the queen. If anyone knows what to do with you, she would. Her heart is with the children. She would make a wonderful mother."

The child still rides in silence toward the castle. How would he explain that the child had no clothes except William's cloak?

"You're highness, I have brought a child. He has been abandoned because his different appearance. What shall I do with him?

The queen asks that the boy be brought to her. She pulls the cloak from his body. There she seen the albino skin, no hair, and his big blue eyes. "Maid, please find the child clothes." Then turned her attention to the child. "What is your name?"

The child had no answer. "There is no need to be afraid. I am here to help you, no one will harm you in this castle."

"Queen, the boys seems to not be able to talk." William tells her.

The queen is falling in love with the child. "William, I make this child my son. His name is called Thomas because of my noble father. You will take him and teach him the traits to defend his kingdom."

"Do you have anyone else? I am not good with children."

"No! I will trust my son with only you. If I want a strong king when I die, I need a strong noble man to teach him." The queen reaches out and takes the child by the hand. "Would you like to be a Prince and my son?" Thomas smiles and nods. He smiles the first expression of his young life.

William had the duty to this child now. The queen sent her maid with them to purchase all the a growing boy would need. His own cloak, boots, and robes fit for her prince.

Thomas is brought back to a beautiful room. It was not dark like the ship. It was full of bright colors and gold trim. He would sleep in this gold bed. The room had 15 windows with curtains. He could see the entire court yard from his window seat. This was indeed a room for a prince.

William starts to go when Thomas takes his hand and pulls him back. He had never been totally alone. I can't stay here. I have a room in the army quarters.

When the maid carried the message to the queen, she assigns William another title to go with General. She assigned him as the prince's personal guard. She ordered that he sleep in a cot in the room with her son. This had never been done before, but she had no one else. She had no parents. They with her husband and children were killed on an outing. Thomas was her only family, and nothing was going to happen to him.

William looks at the boy, and seems to know exactly what he wants. When he is hungry, William could hear the child ask for food in his own mind. At first William thought of this as just connection of knowing the human needs. As time went he noticed that they were able to have conversations in William's head. This child could enter his mind to communicate.

Thomas love going to the courtyard with his mother. She took time to teach him the duties of a prince and a king. He always learned with excellence. Sometimes she felt that he knew the lesson before it was taught to him. Sometimes he seemed to know when she needed a hug or felt lonely.

Being a queen was not always royalty, she longed for the love of William. She longed for her freedom, but now it was bare-able having her son. She made the child the center of the kingdom. No one was to speak a word against the child, and there were always children for him to play with on his free time.

She wanted him to be a child prince. Not a Prince that is a child. She wanted him to learn, work, and to play. She wanted him to be happy.

In the evening William was in charge of lessons of fencing. The child learned to use the sword as if he were born with it. He learned use of weapons and warfare from William. William had charge of all of the child's physical lessons. The queen ordered William to take Thomas on all matters relating to the kingdom. He would attend the courts for trails, council meetings, and royal functions. He was to be in all definition of the word a prince.

William was learning to love Thomas. He was never in trouble and he was absorbing all the skills of William. IT was as if Thomas was his own son. One that he had never wanted, but felt blessed to have.

Thomas learned expression. He would smile when he was happy. Would tear up when he felt bad for someone. He would clench up when he was uncomfortable. Yes, Thomas was becoming truly a human child.

He was very creative. He painted, played instruments. He modified weapons for William to use when he went out to battle.

Thomas and William was truly connecting more as a family as days went by. William did not realize that his knowing what Thomas was communicating was not just the connection, he would soon find that the child could enter into anyone's head to let them know what he needed them to know.

When Thomas was eight, Queen Anne met with King  Sed and Queen SanTrina of The Kingdom of Leynitice. This is the time that they arranged the marriage of Prince Thomas and Princess Arabella. The two children would not even met until the week of their wedding. Thomas would becoming 21, and they would get a week to get to know each other as this was the custom.

He didn't think about the marriage. He was a child that was being taught to be a solider. He was strong. The queen taught him to be compassionate. He barely remembered Otec, but he still knew that he was the hope of man kind. He was not sure how yet. However, he did know that he was different than other children. He knew that he influenced how people thought and changed bad behavior almost before a person knew that they were about to do it.

Many times when he was on the field with Thomas scouting to make sure that their boundaries were safe, he would call to animals. Not a sound from his lips, but the animals knew that he needed them to show. Sometimes, it seemed unfair for Thomas to have such a power when it came to hunting. He knew that it was a way to keep his kingdom fed. These are the things that Thomas was entertaining in his young mind.

William watched as his young student learned with such speed. He found that Thomas even invented battle plans that would cause less fatalities. He was a God send to the his kingdom and later would find that he was to the world. William had forgotten how much that he had a great dislike for children.

Queen Anne encouraged Thomas to play with the children. She also found that he was truly a scholar. Before she was finished the lesson, she found that he was teaching other children. Some of them older than he is. Queen Anne was truly a proud mother. She would put bills out that little Thomas would  be honored as if his words had come from her very own lips. She had no thoughts that this child would make decisions that would be childlike. She trusted every thought that this child would have. Thomas' love for the queen and for Salaamanata. She knew that this was the one to be king upon his adulthood. There was no one that she trusted more.

Everyday the Queen, Jade, and Thomas would walk through the garden. The queen would give Thomas hypothetical.

"War is up on us. The kingdom is devided into about what to do. One half thinks that we should fight to stop others from coming into our kingdom running from bad situation in their homelands, but the other half think that the people should be allowed to come into the land for safety."

Thomas entered into the queen Anne's mind, "I would build a wall between the two lands. We should find out who they are before they are allowed to petition the queen to safely enter the gates of the kingdom. Each case to be judged individually."

Queen Anne," Very good my son. I am proud of you, and my kingdom will be safe in your hands one day." She pulls the prince close and kisses him on the forehead. Thomas smiles and knows that he indeed was going to take very good care of his mother's treasure.

Thomas was one of the most interesting children that you could ever meet. He could build anything, create anything, and deal with the worst of situations.

One day Thomas was riding to his favorite fishing spot. There he saw a man about to kill a woman with a knife. The man and woman were husband and wife. Thomas walked into the man's mind. There he found the story.

The man had worked the fields all day, and when he got close to his house, he saw a man leaving the area of behind his house. Of course the man thought the woman was cheating. He would not allow his wife to disgrace him in such a manner. In these times a woman belonged to the man.

"What are you looking at you royal brat," the man said not caring at this moment that he could be put to death for such blasphemy against the prince. He was willing to die.

The man pulls the knife away from his wife's throat. He didn't want to, but his strength was no match for Thomas' powers. He could not life the knife. It was as if an invisible force was making him put the knife away. Still gazing in Thomas's eyes, he had a vision. He could see that the man that he had thought to be with his wife was coming out of the hills from hunting. He had not stopped at the house, nor did the woman know of his presence on the property. With this vision, the man pulls he wife close and begs for forgiveness. They leave his sight holding each other. Prince Thomas went on to his fishing spot.

This was only one example of how Thomas kept the peace of the kingdom even as a child. This was how he always found a way to make good people to understand where they maybe misunderstanding.

One day while playing in the court yard, he heard Jade  screaming. Thomas ran to his friend's aid. There she lay on the ground, and one of the queen's guards was pulling up her dress while another guard held the “servant” to the ground.

Thomas could not feel mercy for the guards. These were men that the queen trusted, and so did Jade.  Jade was like another mother for him. He could not allow this pain to come to her.

He stared at the men. One guard pulls his dagger and plunges the blade into the other guards heart dropping him onto Jade. Jade pushes him off, and runs to tell the queen.

Still glazing into the child's eyes. The guard pulls the blade from the chest of his friend, and brings it to his own throat.

Right then William rides up on his house. Thomas calmed down releasing his power from the guard.

William says, “ You are going before the queen to be judged.”

The guard answers, “Sir, I saw that the servant was being attacked, and I plunged my dagger into his chest to save the woman.”

Thomas looks into the man's eyes again, and the guard began to speak words that he could not stop from leaving his lips. “We have watched the woman for years. She is just a maid and slave. She has no value. Then we decided to entertain ourselves with her. My friend first, and then it would be time for me.”

Thomas ropes the guard and takes him to the throne room. There he did not have much hope when he was that Queen Anne was standing in front of her throne cradling Jade's weeping head in her arms. The queen sees the guard, and asks Jade to stand by her side. The queen takes her place on her throne.

"What do you have to say to your self?" She asks him.

The guard knows that there are no longer words that would save him from her wrath. He looks down to the ground and says nothing.

The queen turns her attention to William, " What is the reasoning for this attack on my servant, my old friend?"

"He and his friend chose to follow Jade into the courtyard. There they attacked her wanting to have their way with her. He and his friend in turn. He killed the other, and I rode up just as he was about to cut his own throat."

Queen's eyes was showing no mercy. She looked down rashly. "Your father (God bless his soul) was my chief guard, and I trusted you to follow in his steps. I trusted you with my own life daily, and you betray me as such. You could not get by with loosing you life that easy for what you have done. William, take him from me. Bound him as an ox, and his life will be made as if he were the ox. He will be fed un cook grain. He will live in the prison at night and plow the fiends during the day. He will no longer be a man. Now his has no name. He is an animal. This is who he now is. Take him from my sight"

"Yes, your highness." William smiles. "Jade justice has served the servant." He pulls the guard out of the room on his way to the dungeon.

The queen retires and walks with Jade up the hall to their rooms. "Jade, I hope that you are alright. You have been more than a slave for me. You were a mother to me. If you had been harmed further, he would have a much worse punishment. You will have your own guards by sunrise." She gives Jade a hug and separates to her room.

Jade hears a knock on her door. It was Thomas. He was there to know that everything was alright. "Hello, Thomas. I am alright." Thomas looks at her. "I know that you were the one who killed the first guard, and you should not feel bad about it. You did the honorable thing." She looks into his eyes. "Prince, would you like me to spend the night in the governess bed for tonight as I did in years to pass."

Jade takes the child by the hand. They walk to his room. The governess's had never been removed from this room since Anne was a child. Jade tucks Thomas into bed and tells him a story about her homeland. When he goes to sleep, she retires to sleep.

William spent the night in the royal guard's quarters. There he wanted to size up if there was any others that were not loyal. He could not be sure that if this happened again that it would not be the queen that would be in danger. He made the decision that when morning came he would have Thomas to read the thoughts of the remaining of the quard to see if there were flaws or immoral thoughts. He could not allow anyone to harm the people that he loved again.

How could he have missed this? Why did he not sence that they would hurt Jade? They were chosen by William himself to guard the queen upon her father's death. How did he make such a poor choice with the most precious person that the kingdom had?

William would not disappoint the favor of King Thomas. He would not allow anything to harm The queen King Thomas' only heir. This could and would not happen again. William finally went to sleep with his daggar beneath his pillow.
