Day to day stuff....a memoir without order. |
Jim had the cataract from his right eye removed Friday morning. I've never heard of this happening before and could not find anything about it on Google. When they inserted the new lens, it would not open...so they had to remove it, send for another size, and insert it. So he had lots more trauma to his eye than normal. Apparently, the aritficial lens is "folded" and inserted through a very small slit, then is opened after it is inside the eye (think ship in a bottle, I guess). His would not open because it was a mite too large. They had to make a larger slit to get it out and use a lot more medicine in the eye than normal. The larger slit required stitches which the doc will remove in about a week. Early Saturday morning we were back at the doctor's for post op with a good amount of eye pain...pressure was up from all the "goo" they had to use. The doc applied a ton of eyedrops and the pain subsided some. I have six different bottles...21 drops to apply each day. We go back again in the morning. Jim says all he can see is a little bit of color...a good sign the doc says...hmmm. Because of the extra trauma to the eye, it will take 2 to 3 weeks for his vision to improve...we hope. Anyway, I hope I haven't scared anyone off from cataract surgery. A very very low percentage has problems. His cataract was extremely dense making it difficult to measure for the lens...plus he has had laser surgery in both eyes for diabetic retinopathy. We just have to hope for the best. Any improvement will be a plus...but we are having serious thoughts about having the left eye done. until next time....c |
