Second, Third, Fourth Drinks

It's the first drink that leads to the next.
My first drink is never required or craved,
though enjoyed and medicinal,
and often leading dangerously
down the wobbly path on which
I make unwise declarations,
maudlin announcements,
get passive-aggressive with the mirror,
sway on barstools, smear mascara,
kiss the wrong man, sing like a crow
and later, under the drill of sobriety,
write mediocre poetry past its due date.
