story bout assassin called Ayelisahr, an assassin with a difference |
Andrew looked behind him, he saw a man and woman standing near a cafe drinking coffee and chatting, a young man walking out of a building checking his phone, an old man hobbling down the street and two women walking side by side. But this was not what he was looking for, what he was looking for was the reason for the itch in his shoulder blades, the person whose eyes he could feel boring into his back. Then he saw a person standing in the shadow of a building, cast from the afternoon sun, staring at him, he stared back at the person, he couldn't tell if it was a girl or boy because of the shadow. Something was odd about the person, something that he couldn't quite place. He stared at the person for another minute until it came to him. His shock was so great that he dropped the coffee in his right hand which spilt all over the concrete, he noticed none of this though, he just kept staring into the eyes of this person, eyes that were a dark purple, almost black, with a bright red centre. Then something hit him, he lost his balance and went stumbling down the sidewalk, he fell over with something crushing him, he looked up and saw a man lying on top of him, he quickly shoved the man off him, jumping to his feet, he looked into the shadows but they were empty, then he looked down at the man who had hit him and jumped back with a strangled yell, sticking out of the man's chest was a knife, but this wasn't just any knife, it was a dagger, like those used in the middle ages, with a large jewel in the hilt that would have been worth thousands, if not millions, of dollars. Andrew simply turned around and ran. Andrew ran for a long time, it wasn't until he was gasping for air that he finally stopped to survey his surroundings, he was in the business district, there was nobody around, then he realised why. It was dark, almost nine o'clock already, Sheryl, Andrew's wife, would be starting to get worried. He started jogging down the pavement then suddenly skidded to a stop, stumbling, there was a stranger at the end of the street, it was a girl, he now realised, tall with pitch black hair, white skin and eyes that were dark purple, almost black, with a red centre. Andrew stared at her for a full minute, and then she smiled, a wolf's smile, the smile of a predator who has just found her prey. Andrew started backing up, one slow step at a time; he couldn't bring himself to turn away from those eyes. She started walking towards him, her smile growing larger and darker with every step. When she was around 40 feet away from Andrew she pulled out a dagger, it had a gold, leather-bound hilt and a slightly curved silver blade. She quickened her step and so did Andrew, who still hadn't looked away from her eyes. She stopped when she was 5 feet away from him, twisting the dagger in her hand like a stick. "Wh...Who are you?" Asked Andrew, stuttering in an unsteady voice. "Ayelisahr," She replied in little more than a whisper, still grinning like a wolf. Andrew shuddered, her voice was like velvet, emphasising her deadliness. Then she lunged at him, Andrew had been waiting for something like this, he still wasn't quick enough though, and the blade sunk into his heart, killing him almost instantly. "Why?" Asked Andrew with his last breath. "Because it's my job." Whispered Ayelisahr to the corpse in her hands as she pulled the 11 pointed star from her pocket, the polished obsidian star was her signature, always one on her victims and The Obsidian Star, her name in the trade. She left via the rooftops, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, on her way back to The Shark, her current employer, most of them had names like that, deadly animal's like The Viper, another recent employer of hers. She would be back at the warehouse in around 10 minutes to receive her pay, from there she would be given another job or go on to the next employer, and on into the unknown... The End of Ch.1 |
