Sharpshooter If you’ve ever had someone hand you a gun and say “Shoot!” while your facing off against a group of heavily armed and well trained combatants, you’d probably care less about the fact that you’ve never shot a gun, and more about the fact that you could die within the next few minutes. That moment changed my life. I knew that I would sacrifice anything to protect those I cared for, even if it meant putting my life in danger. Chapter One: Running for their Lives Aydri Elisabeth Anne lived in the same place all her life, a small but metropolitan planet named Faing. It is a neutral planet, meaning it has not taken sides in the Intergalactic War, which is a huge battle between the right and left halves of the galaxy. Faing is directly on the boundary line between both halves, so neither side could attack it. That’s where everyone’s logic was wrong. A friend of Aydri’s named Klaus Gabriel was showing her his father’s old guns. He had two of them, expensive ones that were only used in the space fleets. These were also dangerous, and one could kill you with an accidental shot. Aydri had wondered where he had gotten these from, until Klaus told her that his father was a fleet commander. “Just keep it, Aydri.” He said, “Eventually something bad is going to happen and you’re going to need it.” Klaus was smart with logistics and the war, so Aydri trusted him and put the gun in her pocket. “It makes me feel better knowing you’re protected.” He told her. He then pointed the other blaster at the ground and started to explain how to shoot it, but Aydri didn’t pay attention. Her focus was on an approaching crowd of black shapeless figures. “Aydri? Hey, are you okay?” He looked at her with questioning violet eyes. Klaus turned his head and squinted onto the heavy winds that had begun to pick up, trying to see what she was looking at. He cursed and ran for the bushes, dragging her with him by the arm. “What-?” Aydri started to ask, but he put a finger to his lips. “Shh.” He peeked out from the side of the bushes, and Aydri could feel the blood pumping through his arm veins, as he’d never let go of her arm. She’d never seen him this scared in his life. He inched his hand down to the hilt of his laser sword, and grasped it until his knuckles turned white. “Freeze!” A gruff voice yelled. They didn’t breathe. “Come out from the bushes with your hands up!” Klaus waited a few seconds, and then followed the voice’s orders. “What are you doing?” Aydri hissed, watching him from the bushes. He broke out into a sprint, and Aydri jumped out and bolted behind him, “Jesus, Klaus! We’re running from the police!” Aydri yelled. “I’m not Jesus, but I’ve been told the likeliness between the two of us is remarkable.” He huffed. “This isn’t time for jokes when we’re about to be shot by the cops!” “Not the cops,” He said in-between hard breaths, “Ruthless space pirates.” He started to run faster, and loaded the blaster that was in his hand. He tossed it to her in one quick motion. “Two blasters?!” Aydri cried, “What the heck do you expect me to do?” “Shoot!” He replied. He pulled his laser sword out of its sheath and activated it with a sweep of his hand. The deadly laser was a menacing shade of purple. Klaus twisted his upper body around and chucked the sword at the nearest pirate, decapitating him. The sword swung back around like a boomerang, and Klaus caught it effortlessly. “Don’t just stand there Aydri! Shoot them!” Klaus screamed at her, “Shoot them or we’re both dead!” Aydri gulped. |
