Writers flooded out 2008, June 17 As writers some of us are very connected to our environs: family, nature, friends, you know ... reality, the type that bites or not. Others of us live in a world of dreams and fantasy. Every summer both types of writers gather in Iowa for workshops, as the University of Iowa is renown for its #1 writing program in the U.S. [Iowa state is #2, Harvard #3]. Weekly and weekend sessions reach out to thousands of young adults to old geezers like me. Not this week. Sessions have been canceled due to the flooding. If one could even get there as Amtrak has canceled routes as well. No word on bus ... Reality bites, and even the Fantasy Writers didn't predict this one. Too mundane? Perhaps. Kåre Enga 2008-06-17 From the Gnus: More Summer Writing Festival sessions canceled: The weekend session of the Iowa Summer Writing Festival scheduled for June 21 – 22 and the week-long session scheduled for the week of June 23 have been canceled. The Iowa Summer Writing Festival will resume on July 6th.
