Cold snaps

Cold snaps at the courage of tulips,
the audacity of daffs. Clouds weep
white tears over hyacinths and henbit,
glazes their purple gaze at a day gone grey,
as April returns to winter. Come May,
all will be forgotten and June's moon
will laugh at our dismay as heat
and dust drive our thirst for icy lemonade.
No lemons on the trees today.
Forsythia frowns in gold, the quince
in orange-peach display sleeps quiet.
Cold covers tulips, daffs and hides
in silver linings of the low-hung clouds.
It hovers over bright stiff grass.
Cold snaps.

ME:

Spoke to family and friends more than I usually do these days. Use to call and visit people all the time. No longer ...

I was surprised to see John Lee yesterday. He's been working in Lausanne, Switzerland. He'll send me photos of the Matterhorn. I wrote the poem "Alps" for him. *Smirk* When I asked about food, he beamed. Said that the food is always excellent; the Swiss take pride. Also that they follow the rules. If there is a crosswalk ... they will always stop for pedestrians. If not ... they honk and you'd better watch out!

The Jayhawk National Championship Parade is today. It will be chilly, but I'm hoping to take some photos.

WRITING:

Last night, I wrote two short responses to Georgia O'Keeffe paintings. After not writing any poetic sketches (I was stressed) for 4 days, I wrote 4 yesterday. I'm a bit behind in my goals, but not to worry.

I received a rejection notice (with a nice note) last week. The two "almost made it" poems were: "Boise City" and "First fish to climb an atoll". This tells me to resubmit those two with others.

IMAGINE:

Wrapped in a feather blanket, 40 some degrees and dipping. Cold hands and body shivering. Then ... an electric heater and a blast of warmth.

white: pear, cherry
purple: hyacinth and henbit

The cherries will bloom this week. From a previous year:
