Some notes while listening to Hawksley Workman's "Treeful of Starling": I was very pleased to open my cupboard last night and find the ingredients to make a basic pot of chili (I was missing a few "extra" ingredients that I would've liked to have, bubt I made do). So today I made my first ever pot of chili (not quite homemade, but I'll work my way up to it). I'm pleased to say that when I made it this afternoon, it didn't turn out half bad! I'll be eatin' that for days! I've never been a fan of Western medicine. When I get a cold (and that happens once a year maybe, and it's a knock-down, drag-out beast of sickness) I might take some cough drops, maybe Dayquil. But that's not my problem today. I've always had trouble sleeping and I've tried everything: radical changes in lifestyle and diet to eliminate as much stress and negative toxins I put in my body, OTC sleep aids, prescription sleep medicine, everything I can think of. But I still can't seem to shut myself down at night, and I'm not the kind of person who can just lay in bed for hours until I fall asleep. Case in point: last night, 3 cups of herbal "Sleepytime" tea (I've heard the Chamomile/Lavender mix is supposed to greatly aid drowsiness), 2 OTC generic sleeping pills and 2 of my doctor-prescribed (50mg each) tablets. I tried to go to bed at 3:30am. I maybe fell asleep around 6, woke up around 7:30, and tossed and turned off and on til 11:30. So I'm going on maybe 4 hrs of unfit sleep. Not cool.
