school

they want to know why i'm going
they don't want me to
but i insist with a lie

false: i want to collect my work for the week
half truth: i want to get away from everything
truth: i want to see the pity on everyone's face

at the bus stop, everyone seems to stare
they don't talk to me until i say something first
as if to gauge my state of mind
see how depressed i really am

i enter the band room
everyone stares
tension is high in the room
i take my seat

my bassoon buddy says she's sorry
and begins to cry
i feel terrible
and assure her it's okay

some teachers apologize
others don't say a word
my friends stand by me throughout the day
and give me hugs when i need them

i feel like crap anyway
