The Burial
the burial

it's always the hardest part.
seeing their bodies lowered into the ground.
never to be seen again by the human eye.
until then it hasn't hit me that i'll never see him again.
i go up to the casket to say goodbye first.
finally i dissolve into tears.
someone pulls me away so everyone else can bid him farewell.
grandpa holds me as people step up to place their hands on the wood.
the last person lingers.
when everyone's done, it's over.
