Not for the faint of art. |
Not that I've actually ventured outside today - as a dedicated indoorsman, I've been playing computer games, catching up on things here, generally cruising the Internet, and taking a nap - but the windows are open, and I can tell that it's about 75 F; the sun is shining, there's a small breeze, people are walking around in shorts, and the sky is that deep blue color. A beautiful day. There's just one problem: IT'S THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING WINTER!!! Don't misunderstand me; I like it warm. I dislike cold. I especially like it when it's about 68-78 F outside. But let me reiterate: It's JANUARY. I know I live in the South, but only just barely. This is Charlottesville, not freaking Charleston. January is when we watch the skies and wonder if it's going to snow or sleet tomorrow, not whether to wear shorts or not. I don't like wasting time in the morning scraping ice off my windshield, but I've accepted that as a fact of garageless life in a temperate climate winter - and that's happened maybe three times so far this winter. I bought a four wheel drive truck several years ago. My previous pickups have been standard drive. I thought, "Oh, I'll buy a four wheel drive for when I go to muddy jobsites, and so I can get around in the snow." Well, granted, I've used it at job sites a few times, but on the road? Half-dozen times in the last seven years, at most. Not at all for over a year. Worst of all, I can't wear my black leather trenchcoat in this weather. Cops would look at me funny, and I wouldn't blame them for once. Guess I'll just be staying inside. |
