Dust

Dust on the path to eternal life,
Reveal footprints of those who have gone before.

Footprints on this wide and straight road,
Meander from edge to edge,
Or march straight on toward the horizon.

To get off this road
Is to sink is quick sand and walk in shifting fog,
To walk on the road appears an easy task,
But this isn’t always so.

Notice the footprints at the edge,
Some wander off the road
And not all who walk into the fog and sand return.

Salvation isn’t an easy task,
To remain on this straight wide path takes work
And attention to the job at hand.

Prayer,
Fasting,
Meditation,
Reading the sacred scriptures,
Deeds
And test –
All these one encounters on this path.

Ahead,
Hidden just beyond the horizon,
Waiting for the seeker and the lover,
The Beloved beckons
Waiting to assist when asked.
