SPRING: 15-16 Nur (19-20 June)

Weather where I am Monday: 92º
Weather where Party of Five is Monday: 68º
Weather in San José, Costa Rica, Tuesday: 79º and weepy.

Planting at Pélathé

I've been planting tomatoes *Smile*. Snow white, black krim, marzano, yellow brandywine. The jet stars need to go in. (But I won't be able to be here tomorrow) Also put in peppers and eggplant. On Monday, I worked until 2 and it was getting very hot. Today, it is humid but not as hot. A cloudy morning and we got some showers.

Teresa Staskal is wonderful. She treated me to lunch yesterday. I ordered curry catfish. She had pho. The Orient is a Vietnamese restaurant. Teresa is part Vietnamese too.

I am at Pélathé. It services the Native American community. They provide housing for single mothers with children, have a pantry, will start a program on alcohol prevention among teenagers. The tomatoes and other produce will go for the pantry. Richard and his nephew have been tilling the ground. Emily helped me weed and plant today.

My fingernails are showing the ravages of digging in the soil. Split nails, one fairly deep. I love the feel of dirt though. It has been three years since I've gardened. This is good for me.

Past the pity party

Carolina won the Stanley Cup 4 games to 3. Edmonton weeps. I wanted to talk to my friend Gary before the game, then figured I'd call this morning ... but I get turned around or distracted and forget to call in the morning. Wish I could call him now, but I can't.

Life is full of these little frustrations. Anyone who is having a petty pity party needs to read galinago's entry "Invalid Entry. I guarantee it will put things in perspective. It moved me deeply, moved me to tears.

IMAGES

The Oil Bin (behind La Parilla)

Inside: a Stewarts bottle floating, tan specks clinging to the edge, a bicycle wheel half submerged, a plastic coffee cup.          On the grate: red and yellow plastic glove, a cupcake wrapper.          On top: a stick of wood, some broken glass.          In front, on the alley asphalt: dark spots.

Odd cars: a rust red Volvo 122. An orange Lotus. A car with Crow Tribe Montana license plates (Land of Teepees).

Other recent entries of note:

For an incredibly touching story of the power of kindness and a lesson on respect towards children, please read the following entry and leave a comment: "Invalid Entry by Cassie Reynolds Do you agree that these are the memories that last a life time?

A blog I came across: "Invalid Item by Maribel is a Dancing Poet . Lots of poetry (a bit like me *Smile*) and this beautiful and wise comment:

June 15, It's beautiful today, 80 and partly sunny. I am grateful for that. I have been keeping a grateful list and sometimes carry it with me as well. I have been thinking about buying a grateful journal just for that purpose.

Three short poems:

The lake in Forest Lawn

One swan.
Flurries threaten.
Ice thickens from the edge
of white on white from white iced light,
one dawn. [163.198a]

Family game of Fortune Teller

Two hits.
Two children screamed.
Two parents held them back.
Apart, together, part again,
four clasp. [163.198b]

Before the ambulance arrives

Three legs.
Beebalm buzzes.
A car burns in the field.
She hops, leaning on her husband.
He moans. [163.198c]
