          SPRING: 6 'Azamát (22 May)

*Smile*           Day After Graduation Day           *Smile*

Weather where I am: 83º and warm this afternoon.

Weather in Olpe, Kansas where Ryan Schrock is from: 83º.

Weather in Olpe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany: 48º tonight.

Yes, I went to the doctor's ...

Okay, okay ... my blood pressure sky-rocketed so I went to the clinic this morning. Caught the 7:44 bus. Was 5th in line for the Walk-in (they only take 6). Got chewed out lightly. Got my Avapro.

After, took a pill with a banana, walked to Jessica's. Sat with Tara and Jessica at their yard sale. Got fed two burgers and ate some of the apple 'pie' Anya had baked me. (It was wonderfully delicious, more like an upside down cake). I even had a coke (a treat). Dottie the puppy is now 8 months old and rambunctious. Saw Adam, Jessica's fiancé. Did my journal and wrote a letter to my friend Gary and actually mailed him a copy of my chapbook, "Tea at Three". Went up to Stephenson Hall and saw Richard (who got an award yesterday at graduation), the outgoing director of the student dorm; Juan Araoz is incoming director, so I gave him a copy of my poetry for his brother Gastón, who I missed seeing today.

Now life can go back to being boring.

3 day old baby; rabbit chomping; blackbird trilling; cattails 4 foot tall.

Clack of the flagpole; sweat; taste of the mulberry; up on campus? the emptiness.

Searching for the 60s

I'd go back, but not without you,
searching for the 60s down some two
lane highway, a Studebaker Lark
reminding me, sitting in the old brick park
near two story buildings of what once
was the main street.

                             I'm searching
for a place my inner child ran off to,
gawking at the license plates
from far-off Pennsylvania, New York
just a dream behind the hills, those
up and downs of narrow by-ways, crawling
behind a relic from the 30s, twenty
cars before us when we reach the crest
of hill. Those days of m&ms still calm
my queasy stomach from the sloshing
in the belly of the car. How far
beyond Pittsburgh lies the 60s?

We'd take the Irwin exit, the Lincoln
Highway heading east into the dawn.
The dusk of old age would set behind us
while the radio played rock-and-roll,
some childish song.
