My School Levy
My school levy didn't pass
A person who voted against it is an aaa
It was the lowest tax increase levied
and didn't affect the retired.
A million was cut from our budget
and now has to be made up.
What will we lose? No one knows.
Could it be sports? then no one will get sports scholarships...
Could it be teachers? the sports will go first, and extra-curriculars we need to get into college... just losing our teachers would be bad... no AP courses for me, for anyone; that's the only reason I was coming back and now I can't even do post-secondary school because the deadline for that decision was a day before the election.
Could it be bussing? then the poor elementary kids are scr**********
Could it be, could it be?

I would like to take the time now to say thank you to whomsoever voted against our levy. I hope your precious football gets cut just so that you'll fall on your ****'s. Then you'll really be screaming.

But then, what's the point in having a marching band? What will I do with my time when senior year rolls around? I'm only required one english class and government and econ. That's a whopping two periods. I have already completed four years' worth of math (my passion) and any english class will be a downgrade for me as I've already taken an AP course. Why will I even need to go to school? Mentorship. That's what I'll do all day. Put in about 50 hours for my mentorship. Chemistry might still be open. Band... maybe.

Actually, our band made it to state competition this year! We haven't been to state in twenty years and this year, this year that the levy failed, this year we made it to state. I hope they don't cut band. It really isn't fair, though, for them to have to cut sports and not cut band; oh, I hate to think of what next year is going to be like. When I was in marching band my eighth grade year we had maybe twenty people in it, and no flag core; this fall we have eighty kids signed up, flag core included. And the levy failed.

The question isn't "could it be?" it's "How could it be?"

How could it be that a community would turn its back on its school system? How could they? How could the state we live in force them to make that decision? I just don't get it.. I'm sorry, I just don't.
