Boy leading a horse

♠♠♠♠♠

Without a leash he leads the horse.
Their bold outline, the subtle shadow,
barely a shadow, it must be noon.

The face of the horse, the boy, both naked,
the landscape glooms under a nude gray sky,
above the sand or dirt dull ocher.

They look at us askance, then freely canter
towards us and veering to the left, pass us by,
leave us to stare at naked sky.

Note: based on Picasso's painting "Meneur de cheval nu" (1906)(known as 'Boy leading a horse' in English) I have seen this in person and was awed by its size and lack of color. It is oil on canvas 220 cm x 130 cm. Huge. Life size. Owned by Museum of Modern Art, New York.
