That would be like my hubby with a garage containing a vehicle, a few tools, and no auto manuals. He may get lucky and not need anything more, but it’s better to be prepared than being without and feeling stuck. Okay, you’re thinking, just what is in that book bag that is so gosh darn important? Well, besides my notebook, pencils, and handy pencil sharpener, it includes (in order of importance to me) my thesaurus, rhyming dictionary, and regular dictionary. While I rarely use my dictionary, it does come in handy once in a while for correct pronunciation and things like that. My thesaurus gets the biggest work out while my rhyming dictionary follows close behind. Hmmm…. That doesn’t sound like 7 pounds of book, you think. Heehee! But I also like to bring a few stimulators along to help trigger an idea. By stimulators, I mean ‘writing books’, ‘poetry books’, ‘magazines’, ‘picture books’…. Anything that might suddenly give me a great idea. It’s amazing the things that will open the imagination. I may read a poem about a tree and suddenly think one up on my own, completely different. I might read a poetry form other than traditional that I like and follow suit with my own words. The prompts are endless. @-->-- @-->-- @-->-- :~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~: Here are some pretty awesome places for Newbies to visit…

As a member of the 'noticing newbies' committee, I sometimes get bogged down with the amount of depressing poetry. I know it's a teenage thing, but sometimes I could scream! I think it's a great idea to encourage newbies away from desperate poems and to challenge their energies into improving their writing. Keep it up! Lynne. ![]() ![]() Submitted by Nikola~Coffee Drinking Lady! ![]() ![]() Cubby, I love the happy colors of the newsletter! Poetry forms--what a great topic! I write a lot of poetry, but really know little about different forms. Some of the items you featured will be of great value to those of us that are no longer newbies as well! ~Nikol ![]() ![]() @-->-- @-->-- @-->-- :~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~: ![]() Which writing tool do you find to be most helpful other than the basic paper, pencil, and computer document? :~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~: ![]() ![]() ![]() Have a question or comment for the Editor? http://www.Writing.Com/main/newsletters.php?action=nli_form ![]() ![]() To stop receiving this newsletter, go into your account and remove the check from the box beside the specific topic.
