Do you welcome visitors to your Portfolio?

When I read a story I always go to the port of the author to read the Bio. I want to know who the person is that wrote this great story. As I visit the ports of members though, a lot of them sit cold and empty, the door shut to visitors. It's not only newbies, older members have also left their Bio Blocks blank. I wonder why?

Bios are not unique to writing.com. Look on the back cover of any book out there and you'll see a Bio of the author.

When I first joined writing.com I didn’t fill out my Bio right away either. There were just too many things to catch my attention. I was too busy learning how to navigate this very large site. Eventually I did though, and the port looks friendlier.

It’s easy to do a short intro of yourself without violating any privacy issues you may have. You don’t even have to admit to being a he/she. Just say a little about your writing, how long you've been writing, and maybe a bit on what you hope to accomplish. It makes visiting your port a little friendlier for your readers. You can change it every day if you wish to. It’s a great way of welcoming your visitors with a smile. *Smile*

Your BioBlock is the welcome mat you lay out for the visitors to your portfolio. Welcome your readers with a brief introduction about yourself, your writing or what makes you tick!

How Do I?: Here's how.

Click "My Account".
Choose "Change Account Text & Special Items".
Read the details and rules regarding your BioBlock.
Fill in your information.
Click "Submit Changes".

If you'd like to check for mistakes and preview what your visitors will see, go to your portfolio and click on 'Show Public View'

Esprit-
Wonderful Newsletter on drafts. It is something that everyone needs to be reminded of now and again

I enjoyed the picks of the week.

My writing fear? That I am not good enough to be published, or that my talent isn't as good as I think it is. Even though I have those fears, I keep chugging and working at it, doing draft after draft. I'll be there one day!

Excellent editorial, Esprit! (ooh, lookie at that alliteration ) It was really quite helpful. Thank you!

I'm not sure what my writing fear is--probably just being afraid that I'll never be really good. I've learned A LOT, but I know that there is still so much more out there for me to learn and absorb! This site has been a blessing and has certainly helped me to grow... I just hope that in coming years I continue to grow!
Keep up the great work,
Jamie

I just joined writing.com less than two weeks ago. I'm already addicted! I have been searching for a place to solicite feedback for my work and stumbled across your site. I am already a loyal fan and can easily see being a member for life. It's strange how one can feel so welcomed and "at home" with a group of strangers! Thanks

Oh, esprit, you were so right on with your comments about drafts. My pet peeve is people that submit and they aren't even finished with the story.

Now if I'll follow your and mine advice and keep stuff in my port through more drafts. I'm finding contests both super and a pain to write to. You do have to really work intensively on something to make the deadline. Thanks for your clear advice!

Thank you all for responding to my letter concerning drafts, and the question of fear. These are great comments and they'll help me in future newsletters. You guys are so awesome!
