Spring has arrived, it is time to spend some time outdoors. Artists feel the urge to take their paint, their pencils, brushes and their canvas to go and paint somewhere on location.

Authors have less tools to carry with them. Just a notepad and a pen is enough! Go out, find a place to sit somewhere and observe! Let yourself be inspired by the people walking by; the buildings you see or the characters who stare at you like you are weird. Sketch these impressions in words and capture them for ever, for others to enjoy!

March 19...
Old and new...it's all in the Bible...

Have you ever heard of Arkventure? No? Neither did I until this week. Just after the departure of the carnival - which had an unfortunate start through a fire that put a trailer into ashes, the Arkventure arrived in our village. The goal of the Arkventure is to make children more aware of the Bible through computer games. The outside of the trailer looked like a military van, and my son Steven was the first one - with his class - who visited the Arkventure on Monday.
Six computers were available and the children were divided into groups. The children were taken on a virtual trip, through parts of the Bible. It seemed that they liked the games that could be played there - while the reaction I received from my son was: "Cool game. But I know the stories already!" My daughter visited the Arkventure on Wednesday and she didn't say much about it. I guess she had more worries about her German lessons. *Smile*

I wanted to know more about this Arkventure and decided to take a look at the website: www.arkventure.nl In short you'll find some futuristic downloads and a game to play there. Fun for kids. More attracted was I to a link about the new Bible translation that is going to be released in October 2004. Parts of this translation are available already in my language. Even two chapters were made available in audio; so you could hear the New Translation.

I have to be honest; I really have to get used to the New Translation. It is written in the way how people speak to one another; not the gracious language we used to use when reading the Bible. In this way they tried to make the Bible more interesting for the youth.

@->--@->--@->--@->--

This made me wonder...
People nowadays complain that the youth doesn't know how to behave themselves; doesn't know how to write properly, nor how to treat each other and others with respect. Even in writings - also from established authors - you can see this happen; young people are treating older people like they have played together.

If a Bible translation - which is usually a guideline for values in Christian households is losing the respect for people in general; what should we teach our readers? And our children?

With that question I'll leave you up to reading the selected items from our new members. And I wish you all a blessed Easter!
