Unfinished Dreams

Unfinished Dreams

Writing down this lonely road
my destiny to find
a burden this darkened load
which fills my troubled mind.

My canvas dry and tucked away
brushes fall prey to rust
easel sleeps for another day
charcoals covered in dust.

The closet hides secrets dark
failed attempts, an old flame
passions hidden, all my art
forgotten, all call my name.

Each time in sadness I give in
shushing muses late at night
to let my dreams die once again
telling them the times not right.

Another wish I have misplaced
turned to mud by rains in May.
Its barren rows lack fertile grace
I shall tend them some new day.

My dreams I gently fold
to hide away from sight
silken squares, purple, gold
so I might sleep each night.
