I just knew
I scanned the beach and found him almost immediately. Everything about him was so familiar. The way he sat, his peroxide blonde hair, his blue shirt. It could only be him. And without seeing I knew exactly what he was doing. He was scribbling in the sand. Tracing random patterns using his index finger. I walked towards him, seeing only him.
“How did you know I’d be here?” he asked without looking up, his eyes on the furrows in the sand. They were just a jumble of lines, twisting and turning and then suddenly ending.
“I just knew,” I didn’t have to explain and he just nodded. “How did you know I’d find you?”
I already knew the answer but I had to hear him say it. He finally looked up at me, shrugged and smiled. A slow smile of acceptance.
“I just knew,” he said.
