My Journal
Floppy, worn-out notebook
Pages yellowed, creased,
Stained with tears, drinks, raindrops, even blood
(Once, I stuck myself with a needle while sewing…)
Flattened spider, archived when I clapped it shut.
Bursting with ideas, dreams, anger, anguish.
Records kept of days and nights
Who's and what's and why's and where's
My garden's growth, my musical obsession—
Continuously evolving scribbling.
Window into my head,
Snapshot of my life.
I love to look back: "this date last year…"
Otherwise, my sense of time is foggy.
My handwriting shifts from moment to moment: Compact by morning, sprawling by evening,
Messy in shadows of dusk and dawn*
Or that time the power went out.
I glory in sheer tactile joy, forming words with pen and ink
Spilling out endless ruminations,
Letting loose, then closing it up,
Sealed shut for another time.
22 lines, 136 words.
Prompt: Pick any object in your room and write a poem describing it.
