Game Night Glory

The pair sits across the table from their guests, one of them eyeing the contents of the table skeptically while the other looks on, bored.

"What do you think?" the first one asks.

"I don't like it," the second one grumbles.

"You don't? It seems harmless."

"That's why I don't trust them."

"I think you're being paranoid."

"I don't think you're being paranoid enough."

The first one throws up his hands in frustration. "This is why no one likes to play with you."

The second one scoffs. "This is why we're undefeated."

"Being 'undefeated' was never my goal, Tristan."

"Which is why I'm here, James. I have the willpower to see it through and crush our enemies. It's a good thing I'm here."

James throws up his hands and stands in frustration. He looks across the table.

"Would our enemies care for a refill on their drinks?"

Andi and Grace both nod vigorously and James brings a new bottle of wine over to the table.

"Sorry about him," James apologizes. "He takes game night very seriously."

"It's hardly a game," Tristan mutters as he finally takes his turn.

"It's literally called The Game of Life." James replies. "And seeing as this is shaping up to be the third couple you've run off with your hyper-competitiveness, I think it's one you're going to lose even if you win."
