Lack of Berries
Thunder paced back and forth. He was sibling of the dragon that lived in the cave and ate berries in the forest. What bugged him was the lack of ripe berries found. Everywhere he searched, all he found were unripe berries. That would do his brother no good. Then he saw a lady and a child searching for berries among the bushes and sighed. This was no ordinary situation. That lady and child looked starving.

"Greetings. May I help you find some ripe berries? It looks like some thieves have stripped this portion of the forest of the berries away," Thunder greeted them in his most gentle voice.

"Sure. We have been searching everywhere for ripe berries but can find none. I wonder what has happened to them all," the lady replied. "We are starving and need food to eat. It looks like we will have to wait a few days before there are ripe berries."

"There is one place I haven't checked yet but it is my brother's favorite hiding spot for the berries to grow. It may be the only place the thieves haven't gotten to yet. My name is Thunder by the way," Thunder introduced himself.

"I am Lilac. This is Daisy, my daughter. There had always been berries year round in this forest all of my life and we've never run out of food before," Lilac complained.

"This is unusual indeed. I feed off of deer and moose. Don't worry. My brother feeds off of these berries but never hogs the berries to himself. I see new seedlings where he planted new seeds. He recovered the stolen berries but they must have been a mess to be eatable. These berries don't do well in bags. Come follow me. It isn't far," Thunder said.

"Berries," Daisy spoke up and cried a little."

Thunder led the group to a spot close to a waterfall. Then he allowed them onto his back and carried them in the air up to the top of the cliff and then into a deep valley and landed. There they settled and saw berries ripe and ready for the taking. This part of the forest hadn't been touched by thieves at all yet. He was proud for his brother's smart thinking. He let the lady and her daughter gather as many berries as they could muster before deciding it was time to head on back. Then he sighed. For a few days he would have to watch out for those wanting berries to carry them on his back to his brother's secret hiding place and back before ripe berries were available in the forest once again. The thieves had done a lot of damage but hope was growing fast under his brother's care. He wished Lilac and Daisy a safe journey back as they separated and he became alone once more to watch over the berries of the forest.
