BM24 Part 9

“”That’s good,” said Doug. “We still should take turns watching him and Tim. Carl, will you help me stoke the fire?”

“Yeah. Who is going to take first watch?”

“I will,” said Doug. “I’ve got some thinking to do.”

“Alright girls. Let’s get some sleep.”

“I don’t know if I can but I’ll try,” said Jodi.

Angela wrapped herself in a blanket and snuggled down by Tim. After Carl was done helping Doug with the fire, he took just a pillow and laid on one of the couches. Jodi took a sleeping bag and spread it out a safe distance from the fireplace. Doug had removed a book and pen from his bag and sat in his chair overlooking Jeff. Eventually Carl and the two girls dozed off into an uneasy sleep. All were dreaming of their individual dealings with the step-brothers, Jack and Marcus.

Angela dreamed she was still marrying Marcus. He had Danny stashed away somewhere and threated to kill Danny if Angela didn’t go through with the wedding...... Angela was at the altar with Marcus and said “I do” shakily. As soon as she did, Marcus pulled out a gun and shot Danny in the head......

Angela woke with a start. Tim moaned and turned away from her. She got up and went to get a fresh bottle of water... A chill in the air took her attention to the front door. It was slightly ajar. Angela eased her way toward it, not sure if she was really seeing it correctly. She got to the door. She didn’t know what possessed her when she pulled it open.

Something knocked Angela to the floor just as the door was riddled with machine gun fire. The door slammed itself shut and Angela heard the locks engage.

“What in the world.....” said Doug.

“How did you get the door open?” asked Carl.

“What was that noise?” asked Jodi.

“Gunfire.” said Doug.

Carl helped Angela up off the floor and back to the couch. “What were you doing?”

“I woke up from a nightmare and the door was ajar. I don’t know why I opened it.”

“Seems like there is something outside that doesn’t want us to leave either,” said Doug.

“I’d bet it is those goons that work for Marcus and Jack.” said Carl.

“I don’t think any of us are going to make it out of here alive,” said Jodi.

Doug took her hand and squeezed it. “If they just wanted us dead we would be.”

“What could they want?” asked Angela.

“When we figure that out we will know what will get us out of here alive.” said Doug.

“You said you have evidence and so did Tim,” said Jodi.

“I do too,” said Carl.. “I took some pictures of some documents when I confronted Jack. “

“So what do we do now?” asked Jodi.

“I don’t know. Just try to calm down and figure out what our next move should be.” said Doug.
