Following A Purpose
Looking back, I can see the depth of meaning meant for me--
I wasn't for an easy life, not the kind without strife.
In a home filled with hate, I found imagination's gate,
And survived when left alone--a queen of unrest at the throne.
I never should have walked away, never having learned to play--
Yet I found a path to follow, boring out my own hollow,
And walked along an unclaimed shore until life could give me more.

Then into chaos, I once more was tossed; and again, my soul was lost--
I found a man I thought I knew, but he punched and yelled and sometimes threw--
Whenever I did not conform, he would have his wife's clothes torn,
And many times, he promised change even as he filled me with pain--
I left his home before the court date was set, before once more he could beget
A chance to hurt me even more, a chance I now had that I had not before.

Finally in a bar so dim, I caught a glimpse of HIM:
The one who I would grow to adore, so different than what came before--
And over the years we would dance, giving love a fighting chance.
A symbol of our love was born, and my heart with glee was torn--
For our child we had made a path in life that would not fade.
She would never know pain, never in hate would she gain.
We showered her with love and kindness, but not with blindness--
We taught her about people who may not be as kind as those she knew--
We wanted to make sure she could fly without tears in her eyes.

Now my angel's on her own, building her very own throne
And we remain to weather storms and other things the nighttime born--
And through illness we now wade, a pool that will cause your memory to fade--
I know the path will be filled with pain, yet I would rather moments gain
As I watch the sunset fall, I realize how precious our lives really are
For one another we were made and to heaven our hearts gave--
For we have learned from each other, and I know there will not be another
From whom I shall find such peace as when we lay down at night to sleep
