RoE D4 Pt8

Dr. Solanum reported that Mary Cartwright had been beaten and sexually assaulted. It was the same as Julie Norton in Waterton. She had put up a good fight from the condition of her living room. There was evidence that there was more than one assailant; multiple DNA samples were found on the scene. She had managed to scratch one or more of her assailants.

“The tissue under her nails didn’t match any in the system. Neither did the DNA left inside her or on scene.”

“I doubt if everyone in Pearl County is in the system,” said Tom.

“We suspected there was more than one unsub,” said Galloway. “Some of the victims were a good size and it would take one of equal size or several of them to take them down.”

“The pieces are starting to fall into place,” said Tom...

“We finally have the records of Darrel Michaels and Kristin Claire, whom we can place at the scene of Rick Hall’s murder.” said Galloway.

“We also gathered the records of their associates....” said Tom.

“There are no DNA match ups with samples that were found at any of the crime scenes.” said Solanum.

“We still have little information on the notes. They were written on high quality paper with gold embossed trim and the ink was of high quality as well. We are still trying to track the manufacturer,” said Joe.

“Students at the High School pointed us toward the Auto Club as friends of Rick Hall,” said Anna. “Also that Mike Austin had contact with Timothy Karson. We have yet to connect Rick Hall to Karson except for Karson’s blood on the inside of Hall’s jacket.”

“Has anyone followed up on Mike Austin or Mrs. Karson yet?” asked Galloway.
“The Austin family is in search of a lawyer and Mrs. Karson was ill last time we tried for interviews,” said Anna.

“We can offer to provide a representative for the Austins if they’d be willing to come in,” said Tom. “Let’s use all sympathy but express to Mrs. Karson the importance of the situation.”

“I’ll take the Karson interview,” said Galloway.

“I’m going to try to get more information on the Auto Club,” said Joe.

“Anna and I will handle the Austins and see about interviewing some of the other associates of Rick Hall,” said Tom.

They each jotted down notes about their assignments and gathered their folders.

“Kory, can I see you a minute?”

Galloway stopped what he was doing. Tom looked solemn. Galloway followed Tom to one of the interview rooms.

“There’s no easy way to say this,”

“Then just spill it out, Tom.”

“Your boys were positively identified on the security tapes of a grocery store in Bixby.”

“Bixby? Why’d you look there?”
“Anonymous phone call from a phone booth in Tunning. Further investigation found a report of two boys being stopped by a state trooper just outside of Bixby.”

“That must have been before the bolo went out on them.”

“Yes, it was.”

“So, what do we do now?”

“Hope for a break in the case.”
